Artwork Purchase: Illinois Math and Science Academy

Open to artists that live and work in the state of Illinios.

PROJECT SUMMARY Located in Aurora, the Illinois Math and Science Academy is a publicly-funded school for gifted students and was founded as a teaching and learning laboratory by the state of Illinois. The residential public high school serves 650 carefully selected 10th through 12th graders who have demonstrated talent in math and science. This construction project consisted of renovation of four 1970s-era science labs with the equipment and technology necessary to support a world-class science education. In addition the project allowed the IMSA to incorporate new countertops and cabinets as well as upgrade the building's structural components, including plumbing, electrical and climate control systems. ARTISTIC OBJECTIVES/PROJECT SITE The selection committee will select a variety of two-dimensional interior pieces for purchase. The artwork must speak to the IMSA mission of "igniting and nurturing creative, ethical scientific minds that advance the human condition." It must be appropriate for display in a high school setting. IMSA promotes inquiry, collaboration and problem solving in its curriculum and much of a student's work is self-directed. The artwork will be hung throughout the renovated area by IMSA staff. BUDGET DETAILS The budget for the project is $18,000 and will be used to purchase two-dimensional artwork from a diverse range of artists. SELECTION PROCESS The committee will select artists and artwork from the materials submitted by the artist.
