Position: Accounting / Finance Internship

Job type: Part-time, unpaid, for academic credit

Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations

Start Date: Spring 2018 (January – May)

The ArtCore internship program is intended for current undergraduate or graduate students who have a goal of working in accounting or finance in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help undergraduate and/or graduate students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience. This unique Internship will provide the opportunity to gain exposure to not-for-profit accounting for 3 organizations under one non-merging collaboration. The intern will gather invoices and payables from the ArtCore organizations, review invoices for proper coding, enter invoices into QuickBooks, and ensure proper payment approval is acquired. The intern will assist ArtCore organizations in receiving and recording donations and contributions. The intern will assist with special projects such as working on budget reports and other initiatives to improve processes and efficiency for the department. Duties will also include administrative support to the Director of Finance & Operations of ArtCore and work closely with the Executive Directors of Chicago Cultural Alliance (CCA), Arts & Business Council of Chicago (A&BC), and Audience Architects (AARCH).

ArtCore is a non-merging collaborative composed of three of Chicago’s most respected non-profit organizations, Arts & Business Council of Chicago (A&BC), Audience Architects (AARCH) and Chicago Cultural Alliance (CCA). Interns will have an opportunity to learn about the programs and operations of AARCH and CCA and understand the planning and strategy behind this innovative partnership and shared resources.

Responsibilities may include:

·         Reviewing check requests submitted by partner organizations and entering invoices into QuickBooks

·         Reconciling accounts payable/accounts receivable

·         Assisting Director of Finance and Operations with month-end close process

·         Assisting with special projects as necessary

·         Performing general administrative duties which support the centralized back-office for 3 non-profits

Skills & Qualifications: 


·         The ideal intern will be a junior or senior working toward a Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, business, or finance. Graduate students are also encouraged to apply.

·         Knowledge of the non-profit sector and public accounting, either through coursework or employment experience

·         Excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing

·         Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with financial information

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet research tools

·         Experience with QuickBooks (desktop or online)

·         Some volunteer experience preferred, although not required
